Calvin And Hobbes Box Set

For the holidays this year I was give the Calvin and Hobbes Box set; Bill Waterson’s final collection weighing more than 20 pounds. I am very impressed as to it's quality and how complete it is, not only including the comics, but many of the single frame images he did for the book covers. It’s too bad Mr. Waterson is considered impossible to find, because I would love to have it signed.

King Kong Worthy of Its Original

Well tonight I saw King Kong. I am so proud of Peter Jackson for not trying to modernize the fantasy of it all. These days you could never see a story like that, nerds and producers would make sure of it. I think its brilliant and a wonderful homage to the original 1933 version. The only thing that I didn’t feel worked in it was Jack Black; I felt his performance was weak. Not horrible but at the same time I felt like he needed to find the character a bit more. I would very much suggest seeing it if you have not.

ONCE AGAIN HOLLYWOOD VOMITS UP ANOTHER CHEAP WANNABE MOVIE

So I finally saw Aeon Flux. I can’t help but be disappointed. It left nothing for the hard core fans, they didn’t get Trever Goodchilds character right, and they didn’t seem to replicate the macabre feel balanced with the elegant precision that the original cartoon series had. I’m not going to say the movie was bad; it was typical of a Hollywood production. The director was obviously not a hard-core fan, but rather a woman doing her job. What’s worse then them butchering the original concept is that they didn’t even do it well enough to try again with a sequel.

BEING PC KILLING THE HEART OF SANTA?

For many years friends and I have volunteered for more organizations than I can name providing characters and entertainment for fund raising events or anything we felt was a good cause. As a costumed actor you always have to be aware of your surroundings to make sure that children or anybody else around you are not hurt. You must also be aware that certain gestures can in some culture be insulting. It not always easy with many costumes being cumbersome with limited visibility.
Recently I found this article showing how over regulation seems to be stressing out the Santas of the world. Showing how a 40-year veteran felt that he could not handle the stress of an overly political correct world. Because of over regulation many of the actors connected with the spirit of the character find themselves no longer wanting to put themselves at risk leaving nothing but what I could call costume filler left.
