Broken Flowers
Last night I finally got around to seeing “Broken Flowers”, a Jim Jarmusch film staring Bill Murray. I loved the characters, the interactions, the subtle humor, the neurotic fascination with day to day life. Dispite this, when the movie ended, I found myself annoyed. The movie had no ending; it just seemed to stop. Now I love movies that leave open endings; Bill Murray’s previous role in “Lost in translation” still stands as one of my favorite films. But I was disappointed with “Broken Flowers”; I wanted to see something come from everything he did and discovered about his own life, about his own needs, and move on to greater things. I wanted to at least know they he found his son, even if it was a silent figure in the door way fading out to the credits. Am I wrong to not be happy with this? I understand the purpose of the film was to focus more on his realization that his success was fleeting. That a man who had a life style that most would consider successful still felt empty inside; craving somebody to feel a connection with. I can’t seem to get past him finding nothing for his efforts other than more to search for and the question of whether he would even go on.Labels: Entertainment and Film |
