I'm going to once again talk about the elephant in the room.
To start, I’m very much against religious groups being aloud any special privileges in our society. I don’t believe they should get tax breaks, federal funding or have any place in government. Why do I mention this? Because despite this, I still believe that Israel should have the right to stand tall and proud, building its nation. This is a nation not given to them by “God” (such as I'm sure many believe), this is a nation given to the Jewish people because there is nowhere on this planet, where they can go and not be discriminated against. There was a time when I was unsure of its necessity, but then I remembered, many years back, I was saddened to find out, that two of my own roommates were anti-Semites. Steve (I should have clued in with the internet handle "White Fox”) and Rich, turned out to be closeted anti-Semites. As somebody who is proud of my Jewish Blood line (though increasingly thinned out one) on a cultural level, this really hit hard. Who would thought I didn’t like being called a “Heab” and having to sit there while people showed off their Nazi books, making jokes about burning my family in ovens. Go figure, it made me more than a bit uncomfortable. And to make things worse, i watched those around them simply turn a blind eye. If I could not even escape it in my own home, then what makes you think people could escape that mentality on a global scale.
As for the recent move by Israel forces into the Gaza Strip, I hate that it came to that, but every day the people of Israel have to sit there while the surrounding countries bully them and let Humas lob missiles into their home and I don’t see any other option. Humas is refusing to even talk about refraining from random civilian targeted attacks. They are an orgination that has said outright that it will settle for no less than world domination (sounds kind of super villain like), calling for the heads of all those who oppose them.
Do I think the Jewish faith is perfect? No, I think there are issues in it as well. But Jewish fanatics tend to segregate themselves from society, not strap bombs to their chest. They don’t care if the person converts, in fact, they go to the level of making people prove their knowledge of the religion before they are allowed to convert. The reality is, I have never felt threatened by the Jewish Faith on the streets. But I have had Muslims call me a blaspheming dog (though I kind like puppies, so I can live with that one), a condemned impure soulless man, and worthy of beheading in the name of Allah and Mohamed. Recently a Muslim even had the nerve to yell at me for believing in equal rights for women and gays. This was not on the Gaza strip, this was on the streets of Vancouver. And this scares me.
If I get any death threats on my blog, I can almost bet that it will not be from Israel, but rather the cultures found surrounding.
Below I have put a few videos that I think everybody should watch before they even begin to talk about this subject.
